About Sea Oak Capital

At Sea Oak Capital, we believe the energy that powers our nation should have minimal impact on the environment. That’s why we own and operate community solar arrays in Vermont. We are offering a limited number of commercial property owners the opportunity to secure 25 years of guaranteed energy savings from one of our arrays. Our team has a combined 25 years of experience in the solar industry and has developed, financed, owned and operated over 100 MWs of solar projects across the Northeast.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is community solar?

A: The State of Vermont created the current community solar program in 2020. Solar arrays are owned by companies like Sea Oak and small businesses like yours are eligible to subscribe to the solar arrays and receive a credit on your utility bill. You then pay Sea Oak 92.5% of the value of the credit. There is no cost to subscribe and it provides guaranteed energy savings for up to the entire 25-year term of the state program.

Q: Who is Sea Oak Capital?

A: Sea Oak constructs, owns and operates solar arrays in Vermont. The Sea Oak team has owned and operated solar projects in the Northeast for the past twelve years and we are currently constructing 5 community solar arrays in Green Mountain Power’s utility service territory. Q: How do I apply? A: In order to apply, Sea Oak needs one energy bill for your location and basic contact information. You can email a copy of your latest bill to [email protected].

Q: When will I start receiving savings?

A: You will start receiving bill credits the month after the community solar project begins operating. All of our projects are currently under construction and completion dates vary slightly with the first project becoming operational by the end of July 2021. You will not pay Sea Oak anything until you receive the bill credits on your utility bill and see the savings.

Q: What happens if my electricity rates go up or down?

A: The 7.5% discount remains the same no matter what happens to your utilities rates. The dollar amount of the monthly savings will change if utility rates change but the discount remains the same for the entire term of the program.

Q: I have additional questions. Who can I reach out to?

A: You can contact Jess Smith at [email protected]

Q: What happens if my business changes location?

A: If your business moves to a new location in Green Mountain Power’s utility territory then your savings will still apply to your energy bill at the new location. You just need to provide the new utility account number and address of the new location to Sea Oak.

Q: What if I can’t use the credits?

A: We analyze your energy bill and size your subscription to your past 12 months of energy usage. If your electricity usage decreases significantly over time we can adjust your subscription level so that you are receiving fewer credits.

Q: What program is this and where can I learn more about it?

A: This is the Group Net Metering program created by the State of Vermont under Rule 5.100 – Rule Pertaining to Construction and Operation of Net Metering Systems as revised in 2020. The State of Vermont’s Public Utility Commission website detailing the program and providing links to the legislation can be accessed here: https://puc.vermont.gov/electric/net-metering.

Q: What’s the catch?

A: In order to remain qualified for the program you must remain in Green Mountain Power’s utility service territory and maintain your account in good standing. There is no cost to sign up for the program and no cost to maintain your subscription.

Q: What if I already have solar on my property or receive credits from another solar array?

A: Under the current legislation we can only apply community solar credits to utility accounts that do not receive credits from other solar arrays including arrays installed on your property.
